General Information (relevant to both tracks):

Entries for both the art show track and the papers track must be submitted through the conference submission site located here: https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/VISAP2014.

You are welcome to submit more than one application. There is no fee for submitting an artwork or a paper. You may submit to both the papers track and the art show track.

Please use the IEEE VGTC formatting templates for both long paper submissions (papers track) and the 2-page write-ups (art show track).

Notices of acceptance or rejection from the VISAP'14 art show and papers track will be sent via email by August 5th, 2014.

Art Show Track Submission Information:

Artists are required to send written and visual materials — see (A) and (B) below. The submission materials will be used both for review by the jury and to prepare the Art Show digital catalog for the accepted works. (After acceptance, artists will have a chance to edit the text again before the catalog is finalized for publication.)

(A) written documentation

Every submission must include three PDF files that include the following:

1. Basic information about the artwork: Title, date of completion, name of artist (plus collaborators, if any), size of work, and media used. A description of space needs and plan for displaying the artwork. Artists should plan to supply everything needed to display the artwork in the conference center and either bring the artwork to the conference in person or arrange to ship it there and back. If a power outlet is needed, please specify this; if wired network access is required, please also specify this. Please note any other special requirements, and note how much setup time will be required.

2. A detailed, 2-page write-up that describes your artwork and its relevance to the Arts Program theme; including your purpose, how you make your work, and your theoretical framework / how your submission relates to synergies between art and visualization. This write-up should be carefully written, should include relevant citations, and should be created using the IEEE VIS formatting templates and follow the IEEE VIS submission guidelines.

3. A general artist’s statement, including basic information about artist, location, affiliations, etc.

(B) visual documentation

After submitting the written documentation, you will use the "supplementary material" option on the submission site to submit at least three hi-resolution images of the artwork and optionally one video. Please include a video for interactive artworks. You may instead include a PDF file with links to your visual documentation. But we must be able to easily download the materials. The maximum size of the supplementary materials is 10MB. If your files are larger than that, please instead submit a PDF with links to the files (e.g., hosted on Vimeo, Flickr, etc, or your own website).

Papers Track Submission Information:

Researchers, scholars, or artists are required to submit their paper of approximately 5 to 10 pages in length using the Arts Program submission site. Authors must adhere to the IEEE VIS submission guidelines and use the IEEE formatting template. After the paper is submitted, you may additionally submit supplementary material (data, video, images, etc) if needed. The maximum size of the supplementary materials is 10MB. Authors of accepted papers are required to be present at the conference and will have the opportunity to present at an Arts Program session during the conference.

We have a small budget to offset conference fees for authors of Arts Program papers who are speaking during the conference. If you are a student, however, we encourage you to apply as a conference volunteer.
